AQUAINNOVA aims to improve the management of new knowledge in order to support the sustainable development of the aquaculture sector

TITLE: Supporting governance and multi-stakeholder participation in aquaculture research and innovation
PROGRAMME: FP7, Cooperation, Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Biotechnology (KBBE)
INSTRUMENT: Coordination and Support Action (Supporting)
DURATION: February 2010 – July 2012
COORDINATOR: European Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Platform (EATiP)
CONSORTIUM: Federation of European Aquaculture Producers, European Aquaculture Society,SINTEF, EUROFISH, AquaTT

Aquaculture in the European Union encompasses the production of a wide range of fish and mollusc species and has grown rapidly into an industrial sector. While aquaculture appears to be integrated within the Common Fisheries Policy (CFP), there is no real Europe-wide policy for aquaculture development.

The Aquainnova project assists the European Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Platform (EATiP) in promoting the exploitation, dissemination and communication of EC-funded aquaculture RTD. The project is providing the support and methodologies required to facilitate the development of a Vision and Strategic Research and Innovation Agenda on the sectoral components of European aquaculture for 2030.

Cliona Ní Cheallacháin

Cliona’s role in Aquainnova was to provide support to the European Aquaculture Technology and Innovation Platform (EATiP) in carrying out two work packages: Developing support tools and standard methodologies; and, Knowledge Transfer. Based on previous experience in carrying out Knowledge Transfer, Cliona was able to utilise AquaTT expertise to support the aquaculture industry through EATiP.
