ARRAINA is addressing the challenge of the growing demand for fish by increasing the sustainability of farming fish

TITLE: Advanced Research Initiatives for Nutrition & Aquaculture
PROGRAMME: FP7 Cooperation, Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, and Biotechnology
TOTAL BUDGET: €8,001,698
DURATION: January 2012 - December 2016
COORDINATOR: Centre de Bordeaux-Aquitaine, National Institute for Agricultural Research, France
CONSORTIUM: A multidisciplinary consortia of 21 partners from 11 countries

Traditionally, fish feeds are based on fishmeal and fish oil derived from capture fisheries. The sustainability and competiveness of aquaculture depends largely on the replacement of these feeds and significant progress has been made in developing feeds based on alternative ingredients.

ARRAINA is developing innovative vectors to supply alternative fish feeds that maintain the nutritional properties of the fish. It is further advancing our knowledge of the long-term effects these changes in diet have over the full lifecycle of farmed fish.

Cliona Ní Cheallacháin

Cliona was task leader for Dissemination and communication in ARRAINA. This role consisted of working with all partners to understand the research being carried out and propose and develop appropriate communication materials and channels including technical booklets and a project video.
